Learning Design & Content Review
Find the hidden friction that's quietly costing learners
An expert review of your learning design and content, done live with your team. We will walk the journey exactly as a new learner meets it, stage by stage, and you'll leave knowing where your design is already strong, where your learners quietly stumble, what to fix first, with the 'how' backed by research.
Your learners experience it as one thing. Your team only sees their part.
Content comes from one place. Educators teach it. Assessors mark it. The platform does whatever it does by default. Each part looks fine to the person who owns it.
But a learner doesn't experience parts. They experience one journey, from the first search to the last module. And when something trips them up, they rarely tell you. They go quiet, fall behind, and slip away.
That's why so many teams are confident in what they deliver, while someone in leadership has a niggling doubt. Both can be right.
The usual fixes don't quite reach it:
-
Your team don't walk the whole journey. Everyone checks their own piece. Almost nobody follows one course from enrolment to completion, as a learner would.
-
Surveys hear from the learners who stayed. The learners who stumbled are often the ones who never filled one in.
-
Reports arrive weeks later. A list of problems lands in an inbox, and the people who could fix them weren't there to see why they matter.
Learners rarely tell you where they stumbled. Instead they quietly slip away.
How we walk your content together, live
I don't arrive with a list that gets read back to you. Instead, we walk through your course together, from the start, exactly as a new learner meets it: the search, the sign-up, the first email, the first log-in, the first unit or module, and on from there.
I don't present, and I don't teach. Someone on your team drives your interface, and I give feedback in the moment: what a learner perceives at that point, what the research says about the impact on their momentum, and the specific strategy that fixes it.
Your decision-makers hear it at the same time, so questions get answered on the spot and decisions get made in the room.
Nothing set up or tidied in advance. You see exactly what your learners see.
Those hidden friction points are revealed and addressed.
Built on the six stages of the Intentional Learning FrameworkTM
Every review follows the learner journey as the research maps it. Each stage asks the question your learners are already asking.

-
Explore + Enrol. Is this course for me, and can I actually get in?
-
Welcome + Orient. Do I know where to start, and do I feel like I belong here?
-
Roadmap + Expectations. What's coming, and can I fit it into my life?
-
Active Learning. Is this helping me learn, or just giving me things to get through?
-
Assessment + Feedback. Do I know what's being asked, and does the feedback help me improve?
-
Closure + Next Steps. Did I finish well, and do I know what comes next? Was my feedback heard?
Some of our observed changes in learner behaviour when single moments in the learning journey were re-designed
-
53% to 84%: First unit completion
-
33% to 77%: Engagement with online content
-
72%: Average reduction in resubmissions, across nine sites
Three ways to engage, sized to what you need
Focused Review
One stage, or one part of a course: enrolment, the first week, a single unit, or how assessment and feedback work. A sharp, quick look, and a good place to start.
Full Learner Journey Review
One course or qualification, from the first search to the final unit, across all six stages. Best with your leadership team in the room, so everyone sees it together and agrees what comes first.
Ongoing Review Partnership
For larger providers with many courses or teams. A set amount of review time across a year or more, used stage by stage as your priorities change.
Available online, or in-person onsite.
Every review is scoped with you before we start, so the time goes where it's needed.
You walk away with decisions, not a report in a drawer:
-
On-the-spot feedback in every session, including the strategy that fixes each issue, so your team can act straight away.
-
A Findings Register. One line per finding: what I saw, who owns the fix, the strategy, and the priority. It's the record of the review, and it's built to be worked from.
-
A priorities session to close, so your team leaves agreed on what gets done first.
Where findings go next
Some fixes sit with your people. Some sit in your templates and design standards. Some sit with your platform. The Register shows which is which, and the rest of the Intentional Learning Framework™ is there when you need it:
-
When it's about practice, PD On Demand gives your educators the strategy, delivered via short research-backed videos.
-
When it's about standards, the ILF Specification Papers set out what good learning design looks like, from enrolment to completion.
-
When it's the platform, the ILF Vendor Evaluation Standard helps you test your next one through your learners' eyes.
What this review is not
We'd rather say this up front
-
It isn't a compliance audit. The review looks at what helps learners stay, learn and finish, not at regulatory requirements.
-
It isn't me rewriting your materials. You get the strategy and the priority. Your team, or your content supplier, makes the change.
-
It isn't an evaluation of your LMS as a product. I'll point out where your platform is limiting your learners as we go. Evaluating a platform is what our ILF Vendor Evaluation Standard is for.
-
It isn't a written report. You don't want to pay unnecessary hours for me to write a detailed report that goes straight to the "too long to read" drawer. The Findings Register is the record, along with all of the 'in the moment' feedback you receive along the way.
FAQ
-
Can you review third-party content we've bought in? Yes. Many providers use some off-the-shelf material. The review looks at what your learners actually meet, wherever it came from, and the Register shows which fixes are yours and which to raise with your supplier.
-
Who should be in the room? The people who can make decisions, plus someone who can drive your platform on screen. For a full learner journey review, that's ideally your leadership team.
-
How long does it take? It depends on the scope. A focused review is quick. A full learner journey review runs over several sessions. We agree the shape that suits your goals and budget before we start.
-
Online or in person? Either. Online sessions are easier to fit into diaries. In person builds momentum. Both work well.
-
Do you need access to our system before the review? No. The point is to see it fresh, together, the way a new learner does.
-
Are sessions recorded? No. People speak more freely without a recording, and the Findings Register is the record.
